Zayda- Emmett Till's Mother

Zayda explained that the seemingly small decision of making her sons funeral an open casket, was a profound act of protest by Mamie Till, Emmett Till's mother, that served as a catalyst for the whole Civil Rights Movement. She presented her information and created a crime investigation board to literally connect the key people, places, items, and events of the murder. She then went on to do the same for the murder of Tamir Rice, making the case again that the decisions his mother made after were acts of protest. Zayda went on to display her crime investigation board for the more recent murder, allowing her classmates to connect the lines between the two.

Tyler - Stone Wall Uprising

After dynamically presenting his information, Tyler treated us to a video from Teen Line whose mission is to provide "support, resources, and hope to young people through a hotline of professionally trained teen counselors, and outreach programs that de-stigmatize and normalize mental health." 

Following the presentation Tyler lead a discussion which his peers participated in with honesty and respect. The power of Tyler's presentation was in the ambiance he created for the conversation. He effortlessly welcomed his peers into a no pressure conversation where they felt free to participate in ways that made sense to them. What followed was a conversation filled with honesty, curiosity, and collective growth. This was all possible because of Tyler's poise, the sincerity of his invitation, and the grace that he offered and encouraged

everyone to offer.

Matt- Standing Rock

Matthew presented on the Sioux Tribe and other Native Tribe's stand off with the Energy Transfer Partners and the North American Trade Union of the Dakota Access Pipeline. He then shared with us footage from various news sources that he curated, so that we could all get a better sense of what it was like at the protest for the protesters and the workers on the ground as well as have a seat at the table for the discussions between the two sides. He also created a helpful map of pipeline plans, Sioux land and important sites, and the protest site. He added to that map with a timeline of events that matched his news footage so that we could follow along throughout the protest. Matt did an exceptional job placing us in the protest and allowing us to hear from so many different voices. 

Molly- March of the Mill Children

Molly was brave enough to go first. She highlighted key figures like Mother Jones and Lewis Hine while providing extensive detail on the day to day lives of children in the workforce. She challenged her classmate to not only think of the working conditions and life while working for these children, but to also consider what aspects of childhood that meant that they were missing. 

Molly then assigned her peers partners and shared with them a document she prepared. Each document had a type of child labor such as farming, factory work, coal mines, dock work, and labor in the streets. She provided some of Lewis Hine's pictures of
